I've actually seen such a cute "swan scene" in Ipswich (UK) this week-end! We were about to sail home, leaving the marina by the lock, when father and mother swan with their tiny offspring were foraging near the lock doors. As the doors were closing behind us, the family (with father and half the offspring on one side and the rest on the other side of the doors) was about to get seperated. As the "kids" were still far too young to fly, it could take a long time to get reunited (if ever), as there is a heavy current once outside the lock on the open river. With the quickly narrowing opening of the lock doors, the screams and yells from the family (and certain human witnesses!) increased. And just before the doors were closed.... the lockkeeper stopped the doors from his "ivory" control tower and waited for the family to find each other :-) Eventually, they all got together through the lock, out on the river. And they lived long and happily ever after ;-)
